At the end of 2022, Turkey once again confirmed its status as the main market of outbound tourism in Russia.
According to the data released by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 44 564 395 foreign tourists visited the country in 2022 (excluding Turkish citizens living abroad). This is 80,3% more than in 2021 and only 1,1% less than in 2019.
The first place in terms of the number of arrivals in Turkey in 2022 was taken by citizens of Germany (5 679 194 arrivals). Compared to 2021, the number of German visits to Turkey increased by 84%, compared to 2019 - by 12,9%.
Russia was in the second place in terms of tourist flow to Turkey in 2022 (5 232 611 arrivals).
Due to the geopolitical crisis, which led to a reduction of air transportation of Russian airlines, the tourist flow from Russia to Turkey increased by 11,5% in 2021, but still remained 25,4% less than in 2019.
The third place in terms of tourist flow to Turkey in 2022 belongs to the UK with 3 370 739 visits (758% more than in 2021 and 31,5% more than in 2019).
If we talk about the geographical distribution of the tourist flow from Russia to Turkey in 2022, then 57,9% of all Russian arrivals were in Antalya, 28,6% in Istanbul, and 7,3% in the Aegean region of the country (Mugla and Izmir).
3 033 913 tourists from Russia arrived at the resorts of Antalya in 2022. This is 15,4% less than in 2021 (3 586 928) and 45,6% less than in the record year 2019 (5 582 763). In 2022, Russia still has the first line in terms of tourist flow to Antalya, the Germans are in the second place, the British are in the third one.
