Thailand will accept about 250 thousand Russian tourists in 2022
According to official Thai statistics, from January to July of this year, 76 000 tourists from Russia visited Thailand, and this has already exceeded the values of the whole 2021. But it is still very, very far away from the pre-pandemic volumes (about 1,5 million Russian tourists a year).
The entire foreign tourist flow to Thailand in the first 7 months of 2022 is 3,1 million foreigners. For comparison, in 2019, more than 39 million foreign tourists came to Thailand.
According to the forecasts of a number of travel market experts, by the end of 2022, Thailand will receive a maximum of 200-250 thousand Russian tourists. By the end of the year, about 100 000 Russians will arrive on connecting flights and about 20 000 tourists will arrive on Aeroflot flights.
As Lyubov Chuchmaeva, marketing director of the tour operator Paks, said, Thailand in 2022 can receive about 250-300 thousand Russians.
“We explain this forecast by high demand. Tourists are actively flying on connecting flights. On direct flights, the dynamics will also be positive. In case of expansion of direct transportation volumes with other airlines, the demand will increase proportionally,” Paks notes.
But still, even the most optimistic estimates of the Russian tourist flow to Thailand in 2022 among tour operators are at least three times less than 1 million Russians.
As for other Russian airlines, which also "may fly to Thailand", experts believe, it is premature to talk about this at all. In the current conditions, not all aircraft can fly freely.
