Russians are leading in the number of tourists in the Maldives
Russia in 2023 has become the leading market for the Maldives. Since the beginning of the year, over 53 000 Russians have arrived here. According to the country's Ministry of Tourism, almost 429 000 foreign visitors had flew to the islands in the Indian Ocean.
The ministry provided statistics on the leading countries in the unofficial championship as of March 25. The TOP-5 among holidaymakers in the Maldives with a significant margin from Russia included citizens of India – 46,4 thousand people, Great Britain – 40,1 thousand, Italy – 38,9 thousand and Germany - 29 thousand.
Russian citizens have free entry to the Maldives. Anti-COVID requirements have been abolished in the country, tourists only need to fill out an online health declaration.
The high popularity of tropical resorts among tourists is supported by the availability of direct flights to Male. In particular, Azur air offers tickets from Moscow to the Maldives RT in April with a price of $ 390 - 410. Regular flights are operated by Aeroflot.
The Ministry of Tourism of the country plans to accept 1,8 million tourists this year, of which 12-13% may be Russian ones.
