Russian tourist flow to Turkey almost halved in March
The geopolitical crisis and "air sanctions" changed the picture of foreign tourism in Turkey in March. According to data released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 114 384 Russian tourists arrived in Turkey in March 2022. This is 52% of March 2021 (219 458 tourists).
Accordingly, the flow of tourists from the Russian Federation to Turkey in the first spring month fell by 48% - almost twice. The share of Russia in the total foreign tourist flow to Turkey has also more than halved - from 24,24% to 10,91%.
The total volume of foreign tourist flow to Turkey in March 2022 more than doubled compared to a year ago (905 323 arrivals of foreigners in March 2021 and 2 079 565 arrivals in March 2022).
In turn, the TOP-5 source markets of Turkey changed in March - Iran (274 815 tourists), Germany (187 185) and Bulgaria (169 640). Russia is on the 4-th line.
As for the distribution of Russian tourist flow to Turkey in March 2022, 79% (90 394 of 114 384) of Russian tourists came to Istanbul this month.
Only 20,8% (23 716 tourists) of Russians who came to Turkey in March had holidays in Antalya.
Finally, only 274 tours of Russian citizens (0,2% of the total Russian tourist flow) were recorded on the Aegean coast of Turkey, in the province of Mugla. This is 70% less than in March 2021 (900).
