Russian tourist flow to the Maldives exceeded pre-crisis level
For the first time this year, the Russian tourist flow in January-September (58 306 people) has exceeded the figures of the three quarters of 2013 (54 422), which was previously considered to be the highest in terms of Russian arrivals to the Maldives.
According to the results of three quarters of 2019, Russia became the 6-th largest source market for the Maldives among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The first in terms of tourist arrivals are still Chinese citizens (230 108, + 3.7%), the second is India (115 507, + 105%), the third are Italians (97 315, + 31.7%), the fourth and fifth are the Germans (93 727, + 18.8%) and the British (90 965, + 9.2%).
Following the estimates of Russian Express and Space Travel tour operators, this winter season the Russian tourist flow promises to set a new record for the year - tour operators predict the growth of sales of New Year tours to the Maldives by 30% in annual terms.
The growth in demand is connected with increased volumes of winter transportation to the Maldives. Tour operators traditionally take blocks of seats on Aeroflot’s regular direct flights. Moreover, two tour operators have launched charter programs to the Maldives – this fact is a novelty of this year.
So, Azur Air charters will fly to the Maldives from Moscow by the order of the tour operator Anex Tour from November 25 till January 3. The tour operator Coral Travel launches the charter flights on the wings of Royal Flight on January 1.
Taking into account the growing demand, according to the results of 2019, the volume of Russian tourist flow to the Maldives is very likely to exceed 80 thousand people, which is more than the figures of the record pre-crisis 2013.
