Russian tourist flow to Indonesia has increased five times since the beginning of the year
With each new day, there are more bookings of Indonesia, tour operators say. The country now mainly attracts wealthy tourists, being a new destination for many of them. When direct flights are resumed and entry conditions return to the 2019 version, the country will undoubtedly face a wave of pent-up demand, experts say.
“Demand for Indonesia is growing daily,” says Oksana Korzh, head of Southeast Asia department of Paks tour operator.
The official figures of the volume of Russian tourist flow to Indonesia are confirmed by the data of tour operators. According to fresh Indonesian statistics, which was provided by the representative office of Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in Russia (VITO Russia), over the first 9 months of 2022, the Russian tourist flow to the country reached 25 133 tourist arrivals.
As for the first 7 months of the year, the Russian tourist flow to Indonesia also showed growth in August and November. In August, 4 053 Russian tourists visited Indonesia, in September the number was more – 5 176 tourists.
September figures are five times higher than those of January 2022, when Indonesia accepted only 1 147 Russians.
As it was mentioned earlier, the two main factors limiting the growth of tourist flow to Indonesia are the lack of direct flights and covid restrictions on entry.
For tours, tourists use connecting flights of Qatar Airways (via Doha), Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul), Emirates (via Dubai), etc.
Despite all the difficulties, Indonesia is one of the most visited countries in Southeast Asia by Russians. In terms of the volume of Russian tourists, it overtakes Vietnam, which before the pandemic was the second Southeast Asian country after Thailand in terms of demand from tourists from Russia.
