Russia is among the top three countries in terms of tourist flow to Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka was visited by 568,3 thousand tourists over 10 months. Russia took the second place in the ranking of countries for this period, losing only to India.
“Sri Lanka welcomed 42 000 foreign tourists in October, up to 41% from a month earlier. Such success was achieved thanks to a sharp increase of the flow of tourists from Russia, including the launching of Aeroflot flights. In addition, this allowed the country to accept almost 570 000 travelers for 10 months, although the number of tourists is still 73% lower than the pre-pandemic 2019 year,” according to the Tourism Development Authority of Sri Lanka.
India became the leader of the foreign tourist flow in January-October, 95,5 thousand travelers came from there. India is followed by Great Britain (728 thousand), Russia (57,5 thousand), Germany (45,4 thousand), France (30,9 thousand), Australia (22,8 thousand), Canada (22,2 thousand), USA (16,5 thousand), Ukraine (14,1 thousand) and Poland (13,8 thousand)
Russia also took the second place in terms of tourist flow to Sri Lanka in October with 6,2 thousand tourists, losing only to India (8,8 thousand).
As per the Minister of Tourism of Sri Lanka, Harin Fernando, the country expects to accept 800 000 tourists by the end of 2022 and receive more than $1,7 billion of revenue from the industry.
