New Year's tourist flow from Russia to the Maldives has broken all records
Despite the fact that at the end of 2020 the number of Russian tourists in the Maldives decreased by 26,4%, in December the flow of tourists from Russia to the Maldives exceeded the indicators of December 2019 by almost 70% and set an absolute record in the entire history of Russian tourism in the Maldives.
In 2019, the Maldives set a historic record by the number of arrivals of tourists from Russia – 83 369 Russians spent holidays on the islands, which is 17,5% more than in 2018.
In the pandemic year 2020, the tourist flow from the Russian Federation, as expected, decreased in annual terms. So, according to the Immigration Service of the Maldives, at the end of 2020, 61 388 tourists from Russia came to local resorts. This is 26,4% less than in the record-breaking 2019.
The number of 15 323 Russian tourists in December is an absolute record - so many Russians have not come to the Maldives at that time in any year.
At the same time, Russians now consistently are in the second place by share in foreign tourist traffic (India is in the first place and Great Britain is in the third one). The share of Russian tourists in December was 15,6% of all foreigners who arrived in the Maldives.
