For the first time Russians entered into the TOP-5 entry markets of the Maldives. This was reported by the Department of Immigration of the Maldives. Compared to July, the flow of tourists from the Russian Federation in August (although very little in absolute terms) increased by 8,1 times.
According to the Immigration Department of the Maldives, 0 Russians arrived in the Maldives in June 2020, and only 52 guests from the Russian Federation arrived in July. In July the Maldives began receiving tourists only since the 15-th. Compared to July 2019, when 5 345 tourists from the Russian Federation) came to the islands, this drop is more than 100 times.
In July, experts believe, the Russians arrived in the Maldives either on private business jets from the Russian Federation, or by regular flights from other countries.
In August, due to the opening of international flights from Russia to the three countries (including Turkey with a large air hub – Istanbul) the flow of tourists from Russia to the Maldives increased by 8,1 times at once.
In the last month of summer 2020, according to Maldivian statistics, 423 Russian citizens arrived in the country. Most of them came to the Maldives resorts on regular flights with change.
If in 2019 Russia steadily was on the 6-th line in terms of the number of arrivals to the Maldives, then in August the country shifted on the 5-th line.
Ahead of Russia are the Spaniards (513 tourists), the Americans (674), the British (715), and in the first place are the tourists from the UAE (1 627). In total, 7 628 tourists arrived in the Maldives in August.
The Russian tourist flow to the Maldives in August decreased by 12,2 times compared to August 2019, British – 13,7 times, American – 4,7 times, Spanish – 12,7 times.
Experts from tour operators note that now all hotels in the Maldives have discounts, the amount of which reaches 40%.
