In 2021, Russians made more than 10 million trips abroad

Last year, Russian citizens made more than 10,1 million trips abroad for tourism purposes. In 2021 Russians had access to trips to 32 foreign countries, the outbound flow to which from Russia was allowed.

In total, Russian tourists made 10 105 069 trips for tourism purposes, which was 47,2% of all foreign trips for any purpose. Maya Lomidze, executive director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, reports this.

The leading destinations were distributed in the following order by the number of trips:
UAE (612,8 thousand);
Cyprus (560,7 thousand);
Greece (235,2 thousand);
Maldives (222,4 thousand);
Dominican Republic (179 thousand);
Croatia (145 thousand);
Cuba (144,2 thousand).

In 2021, few foreign countries could surpass the figures of 2019. The formal leader here is Tanzania - a 1 227% increase compared to 2019. And this despite the fact that the destination was closed in April 2021 and never opened. Of course, such a striking growth is due to the short-term effect of the low base and the lack of alternatives at that time,” Maia Lomidze said.
