Holidays in Indonesia are becoming more popular among Russians
The tourist flow from Russia to Indonesia reached a historic maximum in 2019. According to official statistics of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, 158 943 Russian tourists visited the country for 12 months. More than 90% of them came to the island of Bali.
In total, Indonesia hosted 16 106 954 foreign citizens last year, which is 2% higher than in 2018. The largest numbers of tourists were from Malaysia, China, Singapore and Australia - in total, travelers from these countries accounted for half of the total tourist flow to Indonesia, more than 8 million people.
The Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia tried to attract 160 000 Russian tourists in 2019, and this level turned out to be practically achieved. Compared to 2018, an increase of 26,4% was recorded. In 2019, in terms of the growth of tourist flow to Indonesia, Russia again was on the first position among European markets and on the third line in terms of growth among all world source markets.
The presence of a direct flight from Moscow to the island of Bali, operated by Rossiya airline, plays an important role in the positive dynamics of 2019, according to the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia. It is the only airline in the country that operates direct regular non-stop flights to Indonesia. The flights from Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport on the route Moscow - Denpasar were opened on October 28, 2018, and are currently operated 3 times a week: on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
In 2020, the Ministry expects not only to provide the positive dynamics of the tourist flow from Russia to Indonesia, but also to expand significantly the geography of travel.
