Environmentalists and tour operators have assessed the risks of disrupting the tourist season in the Krasnodar Region

The fuel oil spill in the Kerch Strait occurred December 15, 2024, when the hulls of two Russian oil tankers broke apart as a result of a storm. 

According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, about 2.4 thousand tons of oil products got into the sea. The Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Region suffered the most from the pollution. Groups from the regional Kuban-SPAS detachment and the Russian Emergencies Ministry, as well as volunteers, were sent to eliminate the consequences. The work is currently in full swing. The resorts of Krasnodar Region are the most popular holiday destinations for the Russian tourists within the country. The tourism industry does not yet expect that the fuel oil spill in the Black Sea will affect sales to the resorts, the Russian Union of Travel Industry (RUTI) reported. Active bookings usually begin in spring, so it is too early to make predictions regarding the summer season in this region.
