ATOR explained Russian tourists the situation with fires in Greece
The situation with fires in Greece remains tense, although most of the large outbreaks have already been taken under control and are taking place outside the tourist areas where Russians spend holidays, Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reports.
According to the Greek media, now they are fighting the elements in the metropolitan region of Attica, in the Peloponnese and the island of Euboea.
The worst-hit area is northern Euboea, where fires raged for five days. Thousands of buildings were damaged, many completely destroyed. Residents of several villages were evacuated to the mainland. This region is not in demand among Russian travelers: as a rule, Greeks themselves or vacationers from European countries come here.
Separate sources of ignition far from tourist areas were recorded on the islands of Zakynthos and Crete, but the fire was quickly extinguished.
The disaster did not affect the Greek resorts, where guests from Russia usually rest. “There were no fires in Corfu. The situation in Rhodes was immediately taken under control. In Crete, no serious fires were recorded. Now the fire is raging on the Peloponnese peninsula, but the fire has not spread to the area where the hotels are located, so nothing threatens the lives and health of the guests. The fire is almost localized, "- said the press service of ATOR.
