Russian tourists were advised to refrain from visiting Greece due to fires
The Russian Embassy in Greece made recommendations to Russian tourists in connection with the ongoing forest fires in the Balkan Peninsula. This was reported by the press service of the diplomatic mission.
“We call on Russian citizens in Greece to be extremely vigilant, to comply with the recommendations of local authorities, and to refrain from traveling to the regions affected by fires,” the diplomatic mission said in a statement.
The embassy said that aviation and units of the Armed Forces of the Republic were involved in extinguishing the fires raging on the northern outskirts of Athens, on the island of Euboea, in the regions of Messinia and Laconia on the Peloponnese peninsula and in a number of other regions of Greece.
“In some cases, residents of settlements are being evacuated, road traffic is suspended, there are power and water supply interruptions,” the diplomatic mission said and added that due to the high concentration of carbon dioxide and ash in the air, the local population was advised not to leave their homes. and placement, and wear protective masks so as not to be exposed to harmful substances.
