A quarter more Russians visited Cyprus in the first half of 2023
According to the results of the first six months of 2023, the Russian tourist flow to Cyprus exceeded the figure for the entire 2022. First of all, such dynamics is associated with block flight programs of tour operators launched at the end of April.
Over the first 6 months of 2023, more than 29 thousand tourist arrivals from the Russian Federation were recorded in Cyprus. This is 3,6 times more than for the same period in 2022 (about 8 thousand arrivals) and 25% more than for the entire last year.
In addition, the result for the first half of 2023 is 58% higher than for the same period in 2021 and 42% higher than for the pandemic 2020. But in comparison with the same period in 2019, when regular and charter flights were operated to Cyprus, the Russian tourist flow decreased by 10 times.
Nevertheless, in comparison with the previous season, there is a positive trend in the destination, and tour operators have played a major role here. Since the end of April 2023, several players of the tour operator’s market have launched block programs to Cyprus on connecting flights of Kuwaiti Jazeera Airways from Moscow.
If in April about 5,5 thousand Russian arrivals were recorded on the island, then already in May there were more than 7 thousand, and in June - almost 9 thousand. Thus, thanks to tour operators, for two months of summer season Cyprus was visited by 16 thousand tourists.
The average sales depth of a destination is 3-4 weeks. There are orders for the autumn season as well. According to Russian Express sales statistics, the top three most booked resorts in Cyprus are Ayia Napa, Limassol, Protaras.
