2 million Russian tourists will not go to Turkey
2 million Russian tourists will not go to Turkey. This assessment was presented by Ilya Umansky, President of the Association of Russian Tourism Industry. The reason is the increase of prices for tours this summer by almost half. As a result, the tourist flow will remain at the level of last year and will not receive an “additional” two million.
“Tourist flow from Russia to Turkey, due to a 47% increase in prices for summer tours in 2023, will remain at the level of last year and may reach approximately 5 million people, despite previous forecasts of an increase to 7 million,” Ilya Umansky said. At the same time, Turkish media emphasize that it was the increase in prices for tours that caused the limitation of the number of tourists visiting Turkey.
“Last year, 5,2 million Russian citizens left for Turkey. We expected 7 million this year. However, unfortunately, due to changes in prices for holidays in Turkey and the exchange rate of our national currency, these forecasts have not come true yet,” the Russian expert also said.
In figures, the average cost of a tour to Turkey last year was about $ 1 880, and this year it is $ 2 766.
