The Border Service of the Russian Federation has published statistics on the abroad departure of Russian citizens in January - March 2021. Compared to the same period in 2020, the total outbound flow decreased by 64,8%, and by 68,2% compared to the first quarter of 2019. The fall of the tourist flow is more than three quarters.
According to the data of the Border Service, in the first quarter of 2021, Russians made 2 664 444 trips abroad (this figure takes into account all the purposes of the visit - private, business, work trips, migration, border crossing by personnel of vehicles, tourism, diplomatic visits, movements of military personnel).
Thus, the total outbound flow (all purposes of the visit) from Russia in the first quarter of 2021 turned out to be two-thirds less in volume than in the first quarters of 2020 (7 577 708 trips) and 2019 (8 388 716 trips abroad).
The number of trips of Russian citizens, who traveled to 6 main countries opened for tourism (Turkey, UAE, Tanzania, Maldives, Cuba, Egypt, Serbia) in the first quarter of 2021, amounted to 751 519. In comparison with the first quarter of 2020, the outbound tourist flow in this group of countries decreased by -2,15%, and by -2,75% compared with the same period of the pre-pandemic 2019.
TOP-10 of the countries by the number of foreign trips of Russians in January - March 2021 (dynamics of growth/decline in the number of trips compared to the first quarter of 2020):
Abkhazia (789 330 trips, -3,1%).
Turkey (468 924, + 40,5%). The vast majority of trips are made by tourists.
Ukraine (316 286, -44,4%). All trips are private non-tourist visits.
Kazakhstan (122 330, -75,1%). Almost all trips are non-touristy.
UAE (115 803, -64,25%). The vast majority of trips are made by tourists.
Finland (87 183, -89,3%). All trips are private non-tourist visits.
Tanzania (78 860, + 1297,2%). Almost all trips are made by tourists.
South Ossetia (65 309, -11%). All trips are private non-tourist visits.
Kyrgyzstan (45 222, + 13,6%). The overwhelming majority of visits are non-tourist.
Armenia (44 586, -60,9%). The overwhelming majority of visits are non-tourist.
The total outbound flow in this group of 10 countries in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 2 133 819 trips. This is -41% less compared to the first quarter of 2020 and -39% less compared to the first quarter of 2019.
