The Border Service of the FSB of Russia has published data on outbound foreign trips of Russians for the three quarters of 2022. The ATOR Analytical Service studied the statistics of the Border Service and popular tourist countries, compiling the TOP foreign countries visited by Russian tourists in January-November 2022.
According to the Border Service, the total number of trips abroad of Russians with all purposes of visits (not only tourism) for the three quarters of 2022 amounted to 17 445 730. This is 13,8% more than for the same period of the “covid” 2021 , but more than double (53,2%) less than in the three quarters of pre- covid 2019.
At the same time, the third quarter of 2022 accounted for more than half (52,5%) of all foreign trips of Russians. The share of the II quarter was 26,25% and I quarter – 22,25%.
In the total outbound flow for the three quarters of 2022 (with all purposes of the visit, not only tourism) the leaders are: Abkhazia (4 419 527 trips), Turkey (3 555 032), Kazakhstan (2 022 785), UAE (743 578), Finland (731 218), Georgia (662 852), Egypt (609 900), Armenia (581 317), Estonia (536 448), Kyrgyzstan (338 215).
According to the FSB of the Russian Federation, the share of visits of Russians with tourist purposes to Finland for the three quarters of 2022 was only 0,7%, to Estonia – 0,67%, to Georgia – 0,1%, to Kazakhstan - 3%, to Kyrgyzstan - 15%, to Armenia - 34% (probably, in reality, the share of tourists is even less).
In general, according to the ATOR Analytical Service, over the first three quarters of 2022, Russians made about 7,5 million visits to the 15 most popular tourist destinations (including a number of countries of the former USSR) with the purpose of tourism and recreation, which is 43% more than in the same period in 2021 (5,24 million).
