Tourist flow from Russia to Azerbaijan decreased by 3.4% in January-April 2019
“In January-April 2019, Azerbaijan was visited by 847,902 thousand foreign tourists, which is 0.2% more than in comparison with the same period of 2018,” the press service of the State Agency for Tourism informs.
According to the agency, more than half of the tourists visiting Azerbaijan is the share of Russia and Georgia. In particular, the tourist flow from the Russian Federation amounted to 231.411 thousand people (a decline of 3.4%), from Georgia - 227.233 thousand people (an increase of 22.6%). At the same time, in April, the number of Russian tourists visiting Azerbaijan, compared with April 2018, decreased by 4.7% to 64,487 thousand people.
According to the agency, during the reporting period the most significant increase in tourist traffic occurred from the countries of the Middle East (+12%, 88.165 thousand), South (35.4%, 29.079 thousand) and Central Asia (44.2%, 30.474 thousand). There were more and more tourists from these regions than in January-April 2018. In particular, during the reporting period, there was an increase in tourist traffic from Saudi Arabia (by 101.3%), Israel (by 70.1%), the UAE (16.2%), India (95%) and Turkmenistan (144%).
The Agency also notes a decline by 39.5% in January-April 2019 of tourist traffic from Iran - to 68,197 thousand people and from Turkey by 1.7% - to 94,028 thousand people.
