Third of Russians want security ensured abroad rather than development of domestic tourism
About 67% of Russians hold the view that the Russian authorities should concentrate efforts on developing domestic tourism rather than on enhancing safety when travelling abroad, the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) has said after conducting a survey on the issue. The results of the poll have been published on Wednesday. According to VTsIOM researchers, 29% of those polled hold a different view. They believe that the government should step up efforts to ensure safety of Russian citizens abroad. Meanwhile, 9% of respondents were undecided. The smallest number of supporters of the development of domestic tourism is represented by people aged between 18 and 24 (54%), and the greatest number - by people aged 60 and beyond (74%). There is a direct correlation between the views of Russians on the priorities of international and domestic tourism and their incomes. People with low incomes more often suggest concentrating on the development of domestic tourism (71%). This figure is 10 percentage points lower among people with high incomes. The poll was conducted on November 14-15, 2015, with 1,600 people surveyed in Russia’s 46 regions. The margin of error does not exceed 3.5%
