In Malta the growth trend, recorded in the Russian tourist traffic (+ 26.5%), is actual for the current year. Tour operators acting on the destination expect that the increase in the number of tourists will be even greater.
According to the Central Statistical Bureau of Malta, for the first four months of 2019, 5,678 Russians arrived in the country, which is 26.1% higher than for the same period last year. The duration of stay of citizens of the Russian Federation in the country increased by 62.4%. From January to April of this year, the Russians spent 57,581 overnight stays in Malta.
Following the results of 2019, the plans of the country's tourist authorities are to increase the total international tourist traffic up to 3 million tourists (in 2018, the country hosted 2,6 million foreigners). Malta is also counting on growth from Russia.
Tour operators confirm that in 2019 the demand for Malta remains at a good level and shows growth. There are all the prerequisites to the fact that according to the results of the year, the destination will show the dynamics even higher than in the past.
"This year in Malta we are seeing an increase in demand compared the same period last year," said the press service of PAC Group tour operator.
ANEX Tour also confirmed this trend. “Despite the fact that the destination is not so massive, the demand is good during the season and hotels are loaded,” ANEX Tour press service noted.
The number of orders for tours to Malta has increased in tour operator companies such as ICS Travel Group and BSI Group. The Russian Express tour operator’s sales volumes this year are comparable to last year level, but the depth of sales has increased.
According to experts, the price policy of Maltese hoteliers, who often suggest special offers and restrain the growth of basic accommodation rates, helps demand. This allows Malta to adequately compete with other European resorts in the summer season.
“The increased volume of regular air transportation of Air Malta this year acts a positive role in the demand, as well as a wide range of educational tours to learn English. In addition, for the recent years, the tendency of growth of interest of Russians to excursion and excursion + beach tours to Malta is continuing on the Russian market,” market participants say.
