President Putin signed a law on the obligation of parliamentarians to coordinate travel abroad
Vladimir Putin signed a law on the obligation of State Duma deputies and senators to coordinate any travel abroad.
The document is supplemented by the norm that parliamentarians "are obliged to coordinate travel outside the territory of the Russian Federation, with the exception of business trips." If a deputy or senator leaves the country without approval, his powers will be terminated prematurely, it follows from the document. The law was put in force on July 13.
In the explanation to the bill, it was said that the need to change legislation is associated with the emergence of new threats to Russia's security in the context of a "special operation"* in Ukraine, sanctions pressure from Western countries and "a significant intensification of the destructive activities of foreign intelligence services of unfriendly states." Thanks to the proposed changes, it is possible to prevent a parliamentarian from visiting "the country where there is a danger of his arrest or the implementation of other sanctions against him by the authorities of unfriendly countries," the authors of the initiative believe. So far, Russia has had a notification procedure for parliamentarians to travel abroad.
