Nearly 60,000 Russian tourists visited Sri Lanka last year
“Sri Lanka was visited by 59.1 thousand Russian tourists in 2017, which is 2% more than a year ago”, - said the third secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Sri Lanka in Russia Upul Priyanta. According to him, Russia is among the TOP 10 countries whose citizens most often choose Sri Lanka as a place of rest. At the same time, most tourists come to the island from India, China and the United Kingdom. Russia is on the eighth line in the list of incoming tourist - ahead of the US and the Netherlands. U. Priyanta noted that tea tourism is very popular among Sri Lankan guests. "Tourists visit Sri Lanka not only to get acquainted with sandy beaches, wildlife, surfing, archaeological sites, festivals, adventure tourism, but also to learn the history of Ceylon tea from the first mouth. The unique part of the tourist routes is the Visiting of tea plantations. Tourists take part in the process of producing Ceylon tea from collection to brewing it in a cup. They have the opportunity to collect leaves from tea gardens and taste different types of tea. This kind of rest is very popular among Russian tourists”. In 2017, Sri Lanka was visited by more than 2.3 million tourists, which is the highest level for the history of the island. This is 100 thousand more than in 2016.
