ITB China 2024 demonstrates increased interest in inbound and outbound tourism
More than 15,000 attendees, over 1000 selected buyers, and around 250 media representatives participated in ITB China, underlining the high demand and increased interest of and in the Chinese travel market. The show facilitated +27,500 business meetings during all three days. With over 600 exhibitors from more than 80 countries, the event highlighted the robust recovery and further potential of China’s travel market. ITB China demonstrated not only the recovery of the market, but also the strong demand and increased interest from global partners, signaling the potential for continued growth.
According to Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the mutual tourist flow between Russia and China in 2023 exceeded 1.2 million trips. That year after a three-year break, the mechanism of visa-free group trips was launched, within which tourists can travel between the two countries without visas as part of groups of 5 to 50 people organized by tour operators. The agreement on such trips between Russia and China has been in force since 2000, but was suspended in 2021 due to the pandemic.
In early 2024 the tourist flow from China to Russia increased 2.5 times compared to the same period last year.
Tour operator Russian Tour and Hotel Vega (Moscow) which exhibited at ITB China 2024 noted the high interest in Russia as a travel destination.
