In the summer of 2022 Russian tourist flow to Turkey was 32% less than before the pandemic
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey has published fresh statistics on the arrivals of foreign tourists in the country for August and 8 months of 2022.
According to the Turkish Tourism Authority, in August 2022, Russians made 806 505 trips to this country. This is 11% less than in August 2021 (then it was 906 060).
The total foreign tourist flow to Turkey this August increased by 58% compared to the same month a year ago. Therefore, the share of Russians in the foreign tourist flow to Turkey has decreased over the year - significantly, almost two times: from 22,75% in August 2021 to 12,79% in August 2022.
Nevertheless, in August Russia was in the second place in the TOP-5 countries that supplied tourists to Turkey. Only Germany is ahead of Russia (828 265 trips, + 35,5% by August 2021). In the third place, after Russia, is the UK with 550 156 trips (+2 443% by August 2021).
As per Turkish statistics, Russians made 2 149 484 trips to Turkey over three summer months.
Air traffic with Turkey in 2021 was interrupted on April 15 and resumed only on June 21. Therefore, 243% more tourists arrived in June 2022 than a year ago.
That is, it can be stated that despite all the efforts of Russian and Turkish carriers, the volume of transportation (and, accordingly, the tourist flow) to Turkey both in the summer and now is about 10% less than a year earlier.
