Turkey missed every second tourist from Russia due to coronavirus
Turkey released statistics on foreign flow in April and for 4 months of 2020. Such low rates of Russian arrivals at Turkish resorts were not even during the crisis in relations between the two countries 4 years ago.
Due to the closure of borders in April, only 24,2 thousand foreign tourists visited Turkey: this is 99,3% less than in April 2019.
In the reporting period, the Russian Federation did not appear in the TOP-5 of the Turkish source markets at all: Bulgaria (6,24 thousand), Ukraine (1,85 thousand), Georgia (1,76 thousand), Serbia (1,72 thousand) and Romania (1,35 thousand).
In April, only 922 citizens of the Russian Federation visited Turkey. Compared with the same period in 2019, the Russian tourist flow fell to almost zero: by 99,76%. A year ago, it was 391 thousand tourists (+ 34% compared to the same period in 2018).
In annual terms, the number of Russian arrivals in January-April 2020 decreased by 55,36%. The share of the Russian market in the overall statistics amounted to 7,44%.
