Tourist flow from Russia to Turkey for 11 months of 2020 decreased in annual terms by more than three times. However, this did not prevent the Russian market from being among the leaders of inbound tourism in Turkey.
The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism has released statistics on foreign arrivals for 11 months and November this year. In January-November period, the flow of tourists into the country decreased by 71,95% - up to 12 million people. Compared to the same period last year, Turkey missed 30 million tourist arrivals.
Russia is confidently leading among source markets: over 11 months of 2020, more than 2 million Russians have visited Turkey. Compared to the same period in 2019, the Russian tourist flow fell by 70,4%. Turkey missed almost 5 million Russian tourists.
By the number of arrivals for 11 months of 2020 the TOP-5 also includes Bulgaria (1,14 million, -54%), Germany (1,07 million, - 77,84%), Ukraine (965 thousand, - 36 %) and Great Britain (803 thousand, -67,93%).
The share of the Russian Federation in the inbound tourism in Turkey for the reporting period is 16,94% (in 2019 it was 16,05%). For comparison: for Great Britain this figure is 6,68%.
In November 2020, Turkey welcomed almost 834 thousand international travelers (-62% compared to November 2019). Russia in terms of the number of tourist arrivals has become the second, after Bulgaria (143 thousand, but mostly these are not tourist visits). In November, 127 thousand of Russians visited Turkey. This is 34% less than over the same period in 2019.
In November the TOP-5 also includes Iraq (about 49 thousand), Ukraine (37 thousand) and Germany (34,5 thousand). The share of the Russian market in foreign tourist flow in Turkey in November amounted to 15,24%.
According to preliminary data, 3,41 million foreigners visited Antalya in 2020. These statistics are provided by the authorities of the tourist province for the period from January 1 to December 22, 2020. Almost every second tourist in Antalya was from Russia (1,5 million people). Compared to 2019, the Russian tourist flow fell by 3,7 times.
In 2019, 15,65 million foreign guests visited Antalya, of which 5,6 million tourists arrived from Russia.
