In the same period of the last year Sri Lanka hosted 35.9 thousand tourists from Russia (+12.8%). In August this year, the country was visited by 1.2 thousand of Russian citizens, which is 7.7% higher than in August last year. Recall that last year Sri Lanka was visited by 59.2 thousand Russian tourists. This is 1.7% more than in 2016. Tour operators say that the trend for the growing popularity of the direction on the Russian market continues to grow. Sales of winter Sri Lanka started this year successfully. According to ANEX Tour operator, in late August the flights from Moscow and Yekaterinburg to Sri Lanka from October to November are closed by more than 35%, and for the New Year's dates already 50% of tours are sold. The tour operator opened sales of Sri Lanka in May, increasing its flight program by 2.5 times against the last year. Coral Travel tour operator opened sales of Sri Lanka in July. The company notes that the demand for the direction has increased almost three fold in comparison with the last year.
