Sri Lanka began issuing free visas to Russians
Sri Lanka began issuing free visas to Russians from today. Yesterday the corresponding resolution of the country’s Cabinet of Ministers came into force. It will be valid until March 31, 2024.
In particular, Russian tourists are allowed a 30-day stay in the country. Tourists must apply for an electronic visa before arriving on the island. In order the application to be approved, tourists must provide return tickets and confirm that they have sufficient funds. Adding this, double entry is allowed from the date of first arrival in Sri Lanka for a period of 30 days. If this period expires after March 31, 2024, the applicant will not be allowed to obtain a free visa extension.
Previously, the visa fee to obtain the right to enter Sri Lanka for Russian citizens was $ 34 at the embassy, $ 50 (online registration) or 60 dollars (on arrival).
It should be noted, that аt the end of October the head of the country's Foreign Ministry announced that the government had approved the free visas issuance for Russian citizens until March 31 next year. The decision was expected to take effect in mid-November.
