Russian tourist flow to Turkey increased by 20% for 5 months
Russia has strengthened its position on the inbound tourism market in Turkey. Having become the first by the number of tourists in April, Russia confidently maintained its leadership in May.
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Turkey, over the first 5 months of 2019, 12.76 million foreign tourists visited the country (+ 11.3% compared with the same period of 2018). The number of Russian arrivals was 1, 67 million. This is 20.54% more than in January-May 2018. The share of the Russian market in the overall structure of the overseas tourist flow is 13.12% (in 2018 - 12.11%, in 2017 - 10.59%).
According to the number of tourists, the Russian Federation confidently bypassed other foreign markets. Also, the TOP-5 includes Germany (1.2 million tourists), Bulgaria (983 thousand), Iran (701 thousand) and Georgia (697 thousand).
During the reporting period most of the Russian tourists visited Turkey in May: more than 963 thousand (+ 11.49% compared with May 2018). The market share of the Russian Federation in a foreign tourist flow to Turkey was almost 24%.
For comparison: in May Germany was the second with an indicator of 410 thousand (10.2% of the tourist traffic), Great Britain (310 thousand, 7.7%), Bulgaria (244 thousand, 6%) and Ukraine (202 thousand, 5%).
The average price of a room in May at the Anatalian coast was 71.9 Euros (+ 7.7% by May 2018), and the income per room also increased. Compared to May 2018, the earnings of Antalya hoteliers for a room increased by 8.5% to 42 Euros.
In January-May 2019, the average cost of a hotel room in Turkey was 52.3 Euros (+ 2.7%); income per room increased by 5% to 31.5 Euros.
