Russian tourist flow to Antalya decreased by 3,6 times in May
The statistics of tourist arrivals from Russia to Antalya in 2022 shows a very serious decrease from the pre-covid volumes. The “failure” this spring is 70-80% of the figures for 2019. According to Turkish analysts, western markets cannot completely "close" this hole.
So, the following numbers of Russian tourists arrived in Antalya:
in January 2022 – 43,2 thousand (+ 15,8% compared to January 2019),
in February 2022 – 27,5 thousand (-11,6% compared to February 2019),
in March 2022 – 15,8 thousand (-78,7% compared to March 2109),
in April 2022 - 57 thousand tourists (-81,25% compared to April 2019)
and in May 2022 – 224,3 thousand tourists (-72,1% compared to May 2019).
Thus, in January 2022, there were already more Russian tourists in Antalya than in 2019 - and in the future the number of arrivals could be higher than the pre-covid level. But this trend towards a full recovery was nullified by geopolitics and sanctions.
While the Russian market is showing a very significant decline in volumes, the number of arrivals of German tourists in Antalya already (though not very much) exceeds the pre-Covid level. So, if in May 2019 257 thousand tourists from Germany arrived in Antalya, then in May 2022 this indicator was 266,7 thousand (+ 3.8%).
