Only a third of travel agencies note decrease in sales of tours
19.9% of Moscow travel agencies, that took part in the traditional marketing research of BANKO Service, noted that their sales of tours fell insignificantly over last summer season. Another 14.4% showed a significant negative dynamics. The questionnaire was conducted in late August - early September. The question was formulated as follows: "How have you changed the volumes of sales in the summer-2018 season compared with the summer-2017 season?" In total, experts from more than 400 Moscow travel agencies took part in interrogation. Thus, the reduction of volume of sales of tours was noted at one third of retail companies. Another 35.3% of travel companies have remained sales at the last year's level and 30.2% - have positive figures. Observers explain quite positive results for tourism retail over the summer season, primarily, by activation of sales of Turkey. On this direction tour operators have increased volumes compared to the last year. In addition, the preliminary booking of tours for the summer-2018 started earlier than usual. Travel agents could sell a significant share of tours on relatively comfortable exchange rates for clients. The dollar fluctuations, registered since the beginning of the "high" season, had an effect on “last minute” sales. We may add, the demand had to be stimulated by the frequent release of special offers, especially to European beach destinations. This actions helped retail players to maintain acceptable sells volumes. But, it is not a fact that tour operators will be satisfied with their financial results for the season. In any case, for the summer 2019 the leading providers of travel services are not planning to expand charter programs on mass destinations, apparently, considering the volumes of the last season as superfluous.
