Japan Is One of the Most Growing Market for Russian Tourism
The Japanese National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reported that the number of tourists from Russia in 2025 increased to nearly 195,000, a 96.3% increase from 2024. In December, 8,300 Russians visited Japan, a 41.2% increase from the previous year.
Experts named the increase in interest in traveling to Japan expected and explained it, in particular, to the weak yen and difficulties for Russians to visit Europe.
Moreover, Japan's visa application centers in Moscow and St. Petersburg opened on February 12. The application fee is 970 rubles (approximately $12.60). Citizens of Russia and the CIS do not need to pay a consular fee. Citizens of other countries may be charged a consular fee in addition to the visa fee.
The minimum visa processing time is four days. Japan's plans to open visa application centers in Russia were announced last October. The diplomatic mission reported that the decision was due to a sharp increase in requests from Russians planning to travel to Japan for tourism purposes.
