In 2015, Russians spent less at Duty Free shops in Barcelona
The share of Russian purchases at Duty Free shops at Barcelona airport has decreased from 19% to 8% in the first half of 2015, according to the portal TRBusiness.com with reference to the report of the management of World Duty Free Group.
According to the report, overall sales in the Duty Free shops in Spain increased, but the growth of the airport in Barcelona is below the national average. This is due to the lower costs of Russians. If in the first half of 2014 the share of purchases of Russians was almost 19% of total sales in Barcelona, in the fisrt half of 2015, it dropped to 8%.
The company also noted that in the first half of 2015 travelers from countries outside the European Union, reduced costs in European Duty Free shops on average by 1.7%. One of the main reasons for this, according to the guide of World Duty Free Group, is also a crisis in Russia.
