Demand for ski Italy in Russia grew by 30%
The demand for Italian ski resorts this year met all the expectations of tour operators. Already in December, more than 60% of tour packages planned for the winter season was sold. The popularity of the destination among Russian tourists-skiers has grown by 25-30%, Val di Fassa has become the most popular resort.
According to tour operators, the average demand for skiing Italy this season has grown by 25-30% (from 15 to 40% depending on the tour operator and resort). At the same time, an increase of tourist flow from Russia in comparison with the last season may become even more significant. In the 2019/20 season, Anex Tour tour operator entered the skiing Italy.
The season in the Italian Alps began earlier. “Officially, the ski season usually starts in early December, but this winter skiing was already possible in November. January tours were closed in November,” says Julia Berdnikova, head of Italy's department of Pac Group.
Sales of the ski tours of the Winter 19/20 season started in May 2019. The peak of sales occurred at the end of August-September, tour operators report. Early booking promotions were still active during this period. All interviewed tour operators noted a growing interest of tourists in this action. In general, until the beginning of 2020, tour operators sold more than 60% of all planned volumes for the season.
In November 2019, Coral Travel had 30% more reservation of tours to Italian ski resorts than in November 2018. In December, the increase was 70% compared to the same period in 2018.
This season, tours to Italy have risen in price at the level of fluctuations of exchange rates (about 8-10%). The difference was recompensed by early booking discounts.
