A mysterious country opens up to Russians
North Korea, considered the most closed country in the world, opened to Russians in 2024. A year later, in the third quarter of 2025, Russian tourist traffic there reached a historic high – 3,460 tourists visited the republic.
In their reviews after personally meeting North Korea, Russians described it not as a country of «a thousand prohibitions», but as a republic of «a million opportunities" for inquisitive tourists seeking new experiences and truly spectacular discoveries. It was also noted that guides in North Korea speak excellent Russian, so tourists should have no difficulties during their trip.
Many tourists who have already visited the DPRK say that curiosity, a powerful driving force for true travelers, initially drew them to the country. But the irresistible desire to return is thanks to the republic itself, its exciting tourist life and the very hospitable, intelligent and understanding local residents.
