The middle class in Russia could be reduced by 14 million people for two years
Such conclusion was made by analysts of "Sberbank” CIB. The research of investment department of the State Bank called "Consumer Index of Ivanov" (according to the most common Russian surname).
The polling is conducted quarterly among 2300 Russians with an average income and in the cities with population over 100 thousand people. Measures only the level of earnings - education and other parameters are ignored.
For two years the level of income, allowing the respondent to get into the middle class, has increased - from 31 to 38 thousand rubles. And the nominal wages did not grow so much. In addition, the proportion of respondents, who consider themselves as a middle class, declined by 10% - from 61% to 51% of the country's population. This allowed the researchers to conclude that the middle class in the country decreased by 14 million. Accordingly, the number of Russians, who ranked themselves to the middle class, a little more than 70 million people.
