Only 8% of Russians traveled outside of Russia this summer. Half of Russians preferred to stay in their summer cottages instead of traveling.
This year, every second Russian preferred to spend summer vacation in the country, a study by the WCIOM ((Russian Public Opinion Research Center) says.
59% of the respondents had vacation this summer, meanwhile 41% of respondents preferred not to have vacation these months.
"This year, 50% of respondents decided to stay at their summer cottages, meanwhile in 2014, only 40% have limited their holidays by staying at home," the director of WCIOM Valery Fedorov said, commenting the results of the study. He stressed that in absolute numbers, the increase of those who decided to spend their vacation at the cottage is 12 million people. "And all these people chose the cottage not because of a good life," Valery Fedorov added.
According to him, more than 30% of respondents traveled outside of their region. 14% preferred the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory, 6% - Crimea, another 14% preferred vacation in other Russian cities.

"5% of Russians went for vacation to the destinations outside of the former USSR, 3% to the countries of the former USSR, and less than one percent - to the Baltic states. In total 8%, which is a third less than last year, while the figure was 12%," Valery Fyodorov said .
1,600 people from 46 regions of Russia participated in a survey conducted by VCIOM on September 19-20. The statistical error does not exceed 3.5%.
