In cities hosting FIFA 2018 World Cup a record level of hotel occupancy is noted in June - 2-3 times higher than in the same period of the last year.
The corresponding data was presented by the Head of the Federal Agency of Tourism Oleg Safonov within the framework of the press conference held at the city's press center of FIFA 2018 World Cup in Moscow.
The average load of hotels during the championship was from 70% (Volgograd) to 94% (Moscow). In the days of matches it increased - in Saransk - to 100%, in Moscow - to 98%, in Yekaterinburg and Kaliningrad - to 97%.
The fact of hosting FIFA 2018 World Cup provided a powerful impulse for the development of the hotel business in Russia. In order to meet the increased demand for collective accommodation services a large amount of private investment was attracted in the construction of new hotels (including high categories) as part of the state program for 2018 World Cup preparations. With supervision of Rosturizm 20 new hotels have been built and put into operation in the cities-organizers of the tournament. All projects were built exclusively through extra budgetary funds.
In Volgograd region three new 4-stars hotels were opened for accommodation of the Championship participants, in Kaliningrad and Rostov regions, as well as in the Republic of Mordovia – by one 5-stars hotel and three 4-stars hotels. The hotel fund of Nizhny Novgorod region has replenished by one 5-stars, one 4-stars and two 3-stars hotels. In Samara region a 5-stars hotel complex was built and put into operation. It is noteworthy that 5-stars hotels built for the World Cup in Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod and Saransk were the first hotels of this category in these cities.
The hotels operate under the management of large international networks. The total number of key count of the hotels is 2556 rooms.
