Facts and Numbers about Russian Travel Fairs. Independent Analysis of RussTD
On 21-24 September 2016 the Expocenter Fairgrounds hosted the 22nd International trade fair for travel & tourism Otdykh/Leisure.
Please find below the comparative diagrams with number of exhibitors, countries and visits for Leisure Travel fair in 2012 - 2016. The numbers are taken from official press releases published on the web site of travel market.
So we can see, the number of participating countries is almost the same throughout the years (from 70 to 100), meanwhile the number of exhibitors has changed dramatically by 50%, from 1500 in 2012-2013 to 750 in 2014-2015.
First of all, the number of Russian tour operators has significantly changed. If several years ago, such tour operators as Coral Travel, Annex, Pegas Touristik, Tez Tour and Biblio Globus preferred to occupy separate halls for their exhibiting areas, this year most of them even had no stand. Coral Travel decided to stay on Turkish stand, Annex organised the special workshop for travel agents and partners on the third day of the exhibition.
Secondly, after 2014 the number of international companies left the Russian market, or at least diminished the number of business operations here. Of course, the marketing expenses were also cut down.
Thirdly, the budgets of Russians for international trips have significantly decreased, and many people who earlier travelled twice per year, started travelling only once, mostly in summer. So the interest in winter destinations has also changed. Less tourists for traveling in winter means less travel agents and tour operators visiting Leisure as fall travel market.
