Exchange Rate of Tour Operators
According to the Russian law, tour operators are obliged to publish the rates on their online systems in Russian rubles, as it is the national currency. Although, most of tour operators offer the possibility to view prices in different currencies: ruble, euro and US dollar. By most of tour operators, the system works so that at back-end tour packages are calculating in one of two currencies - euro or dollar, and then at front-end converting in to rubles. Actually, tourism software allows tour operators to download price lists from hoteliers and DMCs in their national currency (like Swedish crown), add prices per transportation in dollars, and some services (if needed in rubles). Later, the system calculates and publishes online the whole package in one of two basic currencies, euro or US dollar. At front-end of online booking engine, the prices are converted in to rubles and are shown to customers.
Each tour operators decides itself about currency exchange rate. So, even the price in euro or dollar is the same, in rubles it might be slightly different because of different exchange rate. Usually tour operators prefer not to announce their formula of calculating exchange rate, publishing on the web site the currency rates for next day. Although, experienced travel agents undersnad these formulas. Some tour operators can use echange rates also as marketing tool, for example, they can announce that the rate is fixed for certain period of time.
