Construction of 167 new hotels was launched in Turkey
In 2018, investments in the hotel sector of Turkey amounted up to 3.05 billion Turkish liras (about 560 million dollars). Funds under the state program are planned to be spent for the construction of 167 new hotels throughout the country. Such data was reported by the Association of Hoteliers of Turkey (TUROB).
The government investments were issued in the form of “investment certificates” of the Ministry of Commerce. According to the program, the total capacity of the facilities to be built will be 28,661 rooms, which provides 8,303 additional workplaces in the country. Moreover, 15 boutique hotels for 1,117 beds will be built.
For comparison, in 2017 the volume of general incentives amounted 3.03 billion lire, and they were involved in 192 facilities with a total capacity of 33,259 rooms. Thus, the number of objects decreased by 13%, and the budget grew by 0.6%.
Istanbul remains the most promising. Of the 167 projects, 22 are being built in this city. 17 hotels from the list will appear in the province of Antalya. Also in Antalya, in 2019 a large-scale work will also begin to improve the infrastructure at the resorts of Belek and Kemer.
14 objects (1353 rooms) will be built in the province of Trabzon, located on the Black Sea coast. This may indicate on the plans of the Turkish government to develop tourism in this region.
From 2016, Turkey plans to increase investments in the tourist sector of Trabzon. The region is quite popular among tourists from Arab countries. There were also built 5 hotels in Samsun, 4 in Rize, 3 in Giresun, 3 in Ordu, 2 in Artvin and 1 hotel in Amasya.
The new hotels in the framework of the investment program will appear in the province of Izmir (8 objects) and Van (6objects). The region is located in the middle of the country and may be interested for ecological and excursion tourism.
