Bidroom.com – the booking platform that actually benefits hoteliers and their guests
Launched in 2014 in the Hague – Bidroom.com is an online booking platform started in response to the worrying condition of the hospitality industry. In the market of hospitality, Bidroom.com wants to be the one to bring the fairness back – as the company’s slogan says. The Dutch startup wants to achieve that by offering the same rooms as its competitors, but at discounted prices, which is made possible by the fact that Bidroom.com doesn’t charge the hoteliers any commission.
Since Bidroom.com doesn’t charge commission on bookings, hoteliers are able to save some substantial amounts of money, but in exchange for that, they are requested to give their guests at least 5% discount off the prices they’ve set on other booking platforms.
Even though Bidroom.com was started three years ago, the startup rolled out the current business model at the start of 2017, followed by the successful launch of the “Better Deal” feature in February. The new functionality allows the users who have already made a booking using another platform, to send their booking confirmation to Bidroom, and in return receive an offer for the same room, on the same dates, but at a discounted (minimum 5%) price. Once they take advantage of Bidroom’s offer, they can cancel their original booking and that’s how they can save money.
So far, Bidroom’s main focus has been on Europe, with Russia being one of the top markets. Actually, nearly every tenth visitor of the platform comes from Russia, which ranks fifth among site viewers. Most popular cities include Moscow – which leads the way with over 30 hotels signed up on Bidroom – followed by Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Kazan. With the growing demand, the platform’s website was translated to Russian, to make the user experience even better.
Bidroom.com continues to develop as a platform and as an organization. The team has also been constantly growing, leading to the opening of Bidroom’s second headquarters in Kraków, Poland. The primary headquarters were also moved from the Hague to Amsterdam. Bidroom now employs over 20 people.
“We are working to continually expand the list of hotels available on our platform. In the past few weeks we’ve had some productive talks with the managers of the world’s biggest hotel chains. Adding their hotels to Bidroom would be another great step for our platform” – says Michael Ros, the CEO of Bidroom.com.
