The Analytical Center under the Russian government found out who is coming in the country for tourist purposes, where foreigners accommodate and how much they spend. The results of the “Evaluation of the impact of incoming tourism on the economy of Russia” were published on the organization’s official website,

The analysis was carried out with the participation of more than 100 representatives of Russian travel industry (tour operators, travel agencies, hotels, excursion service providers, etc.) from 34 regions of the country. Also, experts used the statistics of Rosstat, Turstat, World Tourism Organization, World Bank, etc.

So, according to the analytical center, on average, foreign tourists spend in Russia for one trip (about 8 days) 144 thousand Rubles (1,893 Euros). At the same time, 23% of this sum is for accommodation, 24% for international transportation, 19% for food, 9% for domestic passenger transportation. Thus, foreigners have about 36 thousand Rubles (473 Euros) for Russian dolls, caviar, magnets and other souvenirs.

At the same time, the development of the industry market analysts connect with domestic tourism rather than with in coming - and not without reason. According to Rosstat, the popularity of Russia as a tourism destination in foreign countries in recent years has dropped from 26.9 million tourists in 2015 to 24.4 million in 2017. In the first half of 2018, the downward trend in the incoming tourism continued. From January to June, 300,000 foreign tourists less arrived in Russia than in the same period of the previous year. Statistics did not even correct the start of the World Cup.

The TOP-5 countries by the number of citizens, who entered Russia for the purpose of tourism during this time, includes China (28.5% or 448 thousand people), Germany (163.7 thousand), the Republic of Korea (116, 8 thousand), the USA (90.1 thousand), Israel (58.5 thousand).

According to hoteliers, only 5% of foreign tourists bought tours. Most often they stayed in hotels for 1-3 days and preferred to move between cities, rather than spending all the time in one place.
