“The number of Russians traveling abroad for the rest is approaching to the indicators of 2014”, - said the Head of the Federal Agency of Tourism Oleg Safonov.
"Due to increasing of the number of available offers, stabilization of the economic situation and growing solvency of the population Russians have become more travel abroad: according to preliminary estimates the tourist flow in 2017 increased by almost 20% - up to 38 million trips. In 2014 this figure was 42 million trips", reported O. Safonov during a meeting of the Russian President Vladimir Putin with government members.
The Head of the agency specified that during the New Year holidays, the Russians chose Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, India, Israel and other countries.
At the same time, he noted that "despite the sanctions and anti-propaganda" against Russia there is "a surge of interest to Russia from foreign tourists".
"According to the World Tourism Organization, taken into account the number of requests in Internet our country is among TOP 5 of the most popular destinations. According to the experts’ estimates, the tourist flow in the first decade of January increased by six - eight percent", - Safonov added.
For three quarters of the last year an increase of incoming tourist traffic amounted 14% in comparison with the same period of 2016.
